Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Review

“Much as Uncharted is a feast for the eyes, it’s easy on the ears, as well. This starts with the game’s orchestral score, which is very well done. It blends into the game to the point that you don’t notice it, which is what good video game music should do. It becomes part of the whole experience, indistinguishable because it doesn’t draw attention to itself, but rather to the moment that it’s a part of. What makes it special, though, is that it’s just good music, and it would be enjoyable to listen to outside of the Uncharted game experience, too.”
“The game’s actual sound effects are good, as well. The myriad of weapons in the game all have different sounds appropriate to their type. The game’s ambient sounds really shine, too, from falling rocks in ancient caverns, the sound of the jungle around you, and the echo of footsteps as you move. No complaints here.
Where Uncharted really stands out, though, is in its voice acting. Being a fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, I’m somewhat of a fan of good voice acting in a game, and Uncharted didn’t disappoint. Each of the actors was perfectly cast for his or her role, and they all delivered excellent performances. Not only does this make Uncharted a fun game to just experience without necessarily having to play it, it also helps to advance the game’s excellent story. The performances the actors turned in make you empathize with Drake, want to protect Elena, not trust Sully, and want to see Roman get his in the end, and they’re all to be commended for their work. The voice acting is the best part of the game, in my opinion.”
